Mike Metlay (aka metlay! or, slightly less egotistically, Mr Spiral) has been making electronic music of one sort or another for about 40 years, beginning with academic electroacoustic music in the 1970s and progressing through Berlin School and Ambient to more modern styles such as Fractal Klezmer Glitch and Dinkiecore.

Beyond his work as a solo artist, Mike is best known for co-founding the RadioSpiral Internet radio station and for the various music networking groups and festivals he has assembled since 1990, including three albums by Team Metlay, ten years of the Different Skies festival (the ancestor of Mountain Skies and other festivals around the world)... and most relevant to this show, an ongoing series of collaborations called mindSpiral.

For Mountain Skies 2019, mindSpiral will feature Mike with longtime friend and collaborator Otso Pakarinen of Ozone Player and Karelian Skies fame, making the trip from Helsinki to Asheville for the first time. Mike and Otso will perform with four more artists making their Mountain Skies debuts: Annemarie Borg and Diana Smethurst from the UK, and Rebekkah Hilgraves and Polly Moller Springhorn of the US.

As a little taste of something that may or may not be anything like what mindSpiral will perform in May, here's a live solo improvisation by Mr Spiral himself. Enjoy!
